About the American Prepper:

The Purpose:

To bring knowledge, guidance, and tools to preppers at all levels of experience. Most of us have had to start from scratch! Unlike other sites, The American Prepper has information and guides for everyone, not just a list of “have this or you’ll die” content. Prepping to us is more of a state of mind rather than an item accumulation race, and it can be overwhelming to begin. Our mission is to help you improve your chances of survival in any situation!

History of TAP:

Over the years I have grown as a prepper and have networked with many like-minded individuals. As I learned and my lifestyle changed, many of my friends and family became interested in why I do the things I do and live the lifestyle I live. I found myself constantly sharing my tactics and knowledge of prepping with others, at almost every meeting. Cookouts, dinners, bonfires, holidays, all became consumed with discussion about how to prep for this, or that. I wanted to be able to reference a place where everyone can read for themselves, find recommended products, and learn about all aspects of prepping. Something new and different than the other sites. This is the founding reason for The American Prepper!

About Me:

My name is Bobby Ferguson, I am the main author and developer of The American Prepper. I grew up in a small town in southwestern Virginia, Blacksburg to be exact. Although a small rural town it is nationally known for being home to Virginia Tech. From a young age my father made sure to teach me everything he could about survival and how to live off of the land. Mainly through a Christian youth program called “The Royal Rangers”. Over the years he taught me everything from starting fires with flint and steel down to crafting shelters using nothing but what nature provides! This laid the groundwork for my interest in prepping and becoming a survivalist. I have researched and lived this lifestyle to some degree for as long as I can remember. I do everything I can to learn as much as possible to increase my knowledge and skills. I am also a degreed Mechanical Engineer with a minor in Mathematics. I currently use my education and experience as a Mechanical Reliability Engineer surveying and improving industrial mechanical equipment. That being said my largest accomplishment is being a father to my son, and a husband to my beautiful wife!
